ALCATEL ONE TOUCH starts this year with a bang as it brought to the press and media two of its newest phone models on the “Fashion meets Tech Press Launch” held on January 10, 2012 at Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge in the Fort. The said event housed several very important persons for ALCATEL ONE TOUCH namely Mr Darren Sy, Philippine Distributor for ALCATEL ONE TOUCH, Mr Harry Au, General Manager for ALCATEL Asia Pacific, and Mr Chris Tiu, ALCATEL’s newest brand ambassador.

One of these two phones is the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH GLORY 918N, first known as the Blaze Glory 918N. With this phone, mobile users can have almost all the features that they want in one dual sim android phone. “Now owning a high-quality Android Smartphone does not have to be expensive anymore with ALCATEL ONE TOUCH GLORY 918N.” – Darren Sy, distributor of ALCATEL ONE TOUCH phones in the Philippines.

Got the looks. The ALCATEL ONE TOUCH GLORY 918N gets you one solid grip on its sturdy and metal finish which gives its sophisticated look for an android phone. It carries with it a larger screen from a typical android phone with the same size as it has. Its 3.2 inch capacitive screen makes user-experience really good, together with its quick response to navigation and loading of apps. The screen’s 320×480 pixel resolution makes its screen stand out even more. This phone is on the grab in two available colors: black and white.

Got the features. This phone runs on an Android 2.3 gingerbread OS which makes the android experience more manageable. It comes with pre-embedded apps for social networking, music and audio, tools, games, and such which you can spice up and personalize all the more with unlimited downloads through the android market. A plus factor with the phone’s being dual sim, dual standby, using the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH GLORY 918N is a maximized android and mobile experience in one single phone. You get games, music, apps, messages, Facebook and Twitter all at the same package.

Its 3.0 megapixel camera gives you quality pictures that you can share instantly on Facebook through its wifi connectivity. It’s also 3G and has Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and HSPA. The ALCATEL BLAZE 918N is one complete package that gives users a better experience of their phone. It also enhances your game experience with its G-sensor. Now your phone becomes an instant game controller. With its TouchPal Curve, you can type by just swiping—lesser touches, more messages. As commented by Chris Tiu, “My favorite part is the predictive text. I have big fingers that I miss the letters on the screen. The TouchPal Curve allows me to choose the right words.”

The ALCATEL ONE TOUCH GLORY 918N is already available in all ALCATEL kiosks and dealers nationwide. For exclusive updates about ALCATEL ONE TOUCH’s latest phones, please visit www.facebook.com/alcatel.ph and www.alcatelonetouch.com/ph.

Samsung has recently announced a sequel to its highly popular Galaxy Ace phone and unsurprisingly it has been met with an outcry from Apple’s loyal fanbase. The last year has seen Apple and Samsung locked horns in bitter legal battles across the globe, with Apple accusing Samsung of stealing its ideas for many of its products including the Galaxy S, Galaxy S2, Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Tab.

It is interesting to note that these are Samsung’s bestselling devices in the smartphone and tablet arena, and the first such devices to pose a serious threat to the iPhone and iPad’s market dominance. The Galaxy S became the biggest selling Android phone of all time and was only beaten in this respect by the Galaxy S2. While it has not achieved the same status, the Galaxy Ace has also been a hugely popular device offering a great Android experience with some low cost mobile phone contracts.

The Galaxy Ace was accused of copying the iPhone 4, yet the Galaxy Ace Plus is accused of copying the much older iPhone 3G. It seems bizarre that Samsung would look to a 4 year old device for design inspiration and it is far more likely that the Galaxy Ace Plus derives most of its design from the original Galaxy S, which was also accused of copying the iPhone 3G.

The Galaxy Ace Plus does look more like the iPhone 3G, and the Galaxy S for that matter, than the original Galaxy Ace although aside from this aesthetic reworking not much has really changed. There is a slightly larger screen in use, but it still comes with the same screen resolution meaning that the image quality is not quite as sharp as the original.

The phone has a boost in processing power making it a bit nippier, but its connectivity and camera have not seen an improvement on the original. Even so, its features are certainly superior to the iPhone 3G that it is accused of copying. The phone also benefits from Android Gingerbread which is a much more feature rich ecosystem than the iOS found on the older iPhone.

Fans of the original Galaxy Ace may feel a bit let down on how little this new phone has to offer by comparison, but it should be understood that this phone is just a Plus model and not a full sequel. Samsung also produced a Galaxy S Plus which offered minor tweaks on the original shortly before launching the Galaxy S2. Because of this we can probably expect a Galaxy Ace 2 in the coming months, and it will be this device that owners of the original Ace should keep an eye out for.

But if you do not yet own a smartphone or you had been considering the Galaxy Ace the Galaxy Ace Plus may be a phone worth considering for your next phone contract.

Steve Jobs may be dead, but his ideas and his insights will live for as long as people are willing to integrate them into their own lives. Jobs was famous for all sorts of actions and behaviors, but above all he will always be recognized as a master of human understanding. He knew how people thought and more importantly he used that knowledge to make the world a different and subsequently better place.

Jobs may have been a controversial manager and overseer, but as a liver of life, there was perhaps not a more wiser soul in all of silicon valley. Even if you just grabbed a Samsung Galaxy S2 instead of an iPhone 4S, you’re sure to learn something from the founder of Apple Computer.

The following are five takeaways any tech-mind should carry with them from the life of Steve Jobs:

1. Every second counts.

When the original Macintosh was being designed and built, Jobs was obsessive over the start up time, which developers couldn’t lower past 40 seconds. Jobs was determined to bring it down to 39. When asked why one second mattered, Jobs retorted that one second times 5 million computer users over the course of five years was a literal lifetime of productivity being thrown away. That’s why it mattered so much to him. One second should matter that much to everyone.

2. The technology is more valuable than the money.

What separated Steve Jobs from every other technology entrepreneur is that he saw nothing to sweat over in throwing money toward responsible attempts at innovation. He was not into computers because he knew it would make him money, nor was he into computers because he was computer obsessed. Instead, he did what he did because he knew there was a chance to change the world through that industry, and valued the technological gains more than the profits, which for someone like him could have been gotten anywhere.

3. The space between the developer and the product should be as small as possible.

Jobs was no fan of Flash. His main concern was that such a third-party platform caused too much instability when it came to developers creating applications with the utmost efficiency and user-emphasis. This applies to all realms of development. Cut out the middlemen; Apple became the giant company that it did because they chose to do everything themselves, from build the hardware to design the software.

4. As long as the ends are justified, they also justify the means.

Jobs was a tyrant when it came to Apple technology. It was his way or the highway. The result? Apple revolutionized the technology industry as a whole and the majority of their employees have nothing but loving words for their late commander. Titans of industry are not always likable people, but if they have a vision and the genius to orchestrate it, then whatever recipe that works is the one to follow.

5. Go where the puck is going.

Steve Jobs always claimed that his famous quote on “skating to where the puck will be” was borrowed from Wayne Gretzky, but most people think he made it up himself. If there’s one thing people ought to take away from Jobs, it’s that today has already been claimed by the visionaries of the past. You must always be looking toward tomorrow to make your technological leaps. That’s where the opportunities exist.

“Stay hungry, stay foolish.” These were the famous words Steve Jobs gave the 2007 graduating class of Stanford University. But they only unassumingly express his grander philosophy. We may never get to the core of what made the founder of Apple Computer the man and the visionary that he was, but we’ll always have the chance to take aspects of his life and use them to help shape our own tech destinies.

Davao City – August 10, 2010 – Sony Ericsson has launched the latest handsets in its growing Xperia portfolio here. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro, described as the world’s smallest Android smartphones, have been unveiled in the Sony Ericsson Expo 2010 Davao

The Sony Ericsson Expo 2010 Davao is a showcase of the Xperia, Walkman and GreenHeart range of handsets, as well as its other handset models. The Xperia line of handsets brings consumers the best communications and entertainment experiences, delivered in a collection of smartphones to give consumers choice in size and style. With some 140 million Walkman phones sold, Sony Ericsson has brought the mobile phone music experience to new heights through the Walkman brand. The successful GreenHeart line, meantime, brings green innovations to the mobile lifestyle without compromise on the phone’s design or functions.

The latest Xperia range is the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro. The X10 mini has dimensions of 3.2 by 1.9 by .63 inches, while the x10 mini pro with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard is 3.5 by 2.05 by .67 inches. Both are approximately the size of a credit card, but are bursting with numerous features. As Google Android smartphones, the duo can be customized with direct downloadable applications from Android Market.

Both phones have a 2.55-inch scratch resistant TFT touchscreen supporting over 16 million colors. Their 5-megapixel camera for stills and video comes with auto focus, geo tagging, photo and video light and the Sony Ericsson album application, a feature that organizes image files. Their user experience platform was specifically designed for a smaller form factor with a one-hand touch experience. Users can quickly access their most used and favourite applications through a unique and customizable four-corner user interface.

Sony Ericsson says the phones are true compact versions of the highly popular Xperia X10. The Xperia X10, which is made of solid global debut earlier this year, was Sony Ericsson’s first smartphone in the Android platform. It has since become one of the company’s best sellers, and has been recorded as Japan’s top selling smartphone. The X10 mini is available in black, pearl white, lime and silver while the X10 mini pro is in black and red.

Sony Ericsson has also announced a new Xperia mobile phone that will be arriving by Q3 2010, the X8. The X8 will build on the success of the X10 and the mini products and extend the most entertaining smartphones collection to an even broader audience.

Visitors to the Sony Ericsson Expo Davao can also check out the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Vivaz pro. Like the Vivaz, the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro allows consumers to capture, view and share their best experiences in HD video. The Vivaz pro has QWERTY keyboard that allows consumers to communicate quickly and efficiently via email, SMS or social networking updates.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz has an 8.1 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, continuous auto focus for video, image stabilizer, 3D games, Facebook and Twitter applications. One can review the HD video content in the standby panel or online via Wi-Fi on the 3.2 inc widescreen.

Meantime, the Vivaz pro lets users stay in touch through email, Twitter, Facebook, blogging and chat with easy typing through its QWERTY keyboard. View everything on the 3.2″ 16:9 wide touchscreen which gives HD resolution videos for upload to YouTube via Wi-Fi. The phone has a 5.1 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, auto focus and face detection.

Both Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Vivaz pro feature the new design philosophy ‘human curvature’, which will become a consistent feature of the Sony Ericsson portfolio. The design mirrors the shape of the human body, and at the same time delivers a precise and compelling way of interacting with the phones.

Sony Ericsson also unveils the new Spiro and Zylo Walkman phones at the expo. Both phones provide consumers with the best music experience they have come to expect from the Walkman line aside from social networking connections. Spiro bears the iconic Sony Ericsson Walkman music player, Bluetooth stereo, FM radio and 3.5 mm jack. Zylo gives a superb sound with clear audio experience and plays in high definition FLAC format, the best sound quality ever on a mobile phone. Both phones also have TrackID, which can identify music track’s artist, song title and album title by accessing an online music database.

The new handsets are now available in Sony Ericsson Experience Shops and authorized dealers nationwide.

Not until I’ve tried this new phone I bought earlier – I must say it’s all in one phone packed into a jack-in-box! the menus and UI’s are straight-forward, user-friendly a big plus, slide, drag scrolling touch and feel features somewhat similar to an Apple Iphone, want more? it’s affordably priced at Php 7,900.00 at Samsung Outlet – Gmall Davao.

Though the default games like Asphalt4 – Car Racing, Crazy Penguin Catapult, Diamond Twister, Monopoly and Pyramid Bloxx are in free trial version – you’ll have to purchase or have unlock codes in order to access and play the full features of the game.

My mobile phone seems to have a short lifespan on my hands. So if anyone would try to call my mobile number: 09174332929 forget it, for it is now in the safe hands of someone else. By the way, the phone is Nokia 6300, black front with silver cover. Right now, I’m contemplating the loss, I’ll have to move on now and get a new phone I think I’ll get the cheaper ones, what’s important it can make calls and do some simply sms.
