Guidelines in Choosing a VPS Provider

VPS, otherwise known as virtual private servers, are virtual dedicated servers. It is a system wherein parts of a server mainframe are divided and sectioned off into multiple servers. Each section will now be a dedicated server – having their own operating system, can be independently rebooted and are virtually running their own machine.

VPS hosting is the middle ground between shared and dedicated hosting.  Shared hosting has different web sites hosted on the same physical server. Dedicated hosting enables users to have their own specific server. VPS offers better performance and flexibility than shared hosting but is cheaper than dedicated hosting.

You would need to check for these three important factors when signing up for VPS hosting.  Check out the Hostgator.com Review if their specifications meet your requirements.

RAM (Random Access Memory). This affects your VPS’ performance – make sure you have enough RAM for all your applications.

Storage. Factor in the space required for your operating system, installed software programs, applications, web site content, etc.

Data Transfer. This is the amount of data you are allowed to transfer to and from your VPS.

Aside from the factors mentioned above, do not forget to check for customer support feedback, uptime guarantees and server location and back-up protocol in cases of emergencies. Financial costing should also be factored in. Monthly billing might be wiser just in case you would need to switch providers. Check for refund policies too.

You can try VPS hosting while thinking about whether you are ready to take the leap to dedicated server hosting.
