Few days ago a got a reply from the Open Directory Project stating that my Open Directory Application that I for applied is now approved.
Here are the excepts from the email I received:
Hello Faust Haeja Crismel Principe,
Congratulations on becoming an editor with the Open Directory Project!
Please note that while I have approved your request to edit Regional/Asia/Philippines/Provinces/Davao_del_Sur/Davao_City/Education , your continued participation with the project rests on your ability to edit within the Directory Guidelines mentioned below.
We appreciate your letting us know of your affiliations. Many time editors join in order to ensure that their own sites or their client sites are listed, and this is quite acceptable as long as all sites are appropriate for the category and are dealt with fairly. Failure to give all sites fair and equal treatment will result in the termination of your editor account.
Please make sure your titles are always the same as the company or organization behind the site.
Regarding descriptions, our descriptions should tell what information the site offers in complete sentences without the use of abbreviations, repetitive terms, hype or personal pronouns. We like to say that we describe sites, not businesses and have found the format Description=Subject+Content to be the best way to convey this.
For example:
“Poohbear Industries – Top manufacturer in the WORLD for plastic noses to fit your POOHBEAR, not to mention any and every stuffed animal you can imagine!!!!!!!” is NOT a description that is inline with our guidelines.
“Poohbear Industries – Manufacturer of plastic noses for stuffed animals.” is an accurate title and okay description but
“Poohbear Industries – Manufacturer of plastic noses for stuffed animals. Features a company history, product catalog, wholesale price list, and inquiry forms.” is an excellent description. As you will find, there is a lot to learn. In addition to the Editor Guidelines mentioned below, please take the time to read the Regional Guidelines at http://dmoz.org/guidelines/regional/ and to print a copy of the Regional Template for subcategories at http://editors.dmoz.org/Test/Regional/Templates/Topical_Subcategories/ . The template for subcategories is to be followed whenever creating subcategories.
On your application you were asked for a list of web sites you were affiliated with (“affiliations”). Affiliations include not only your own personal sites but sites you design, optimize, or host. Sites for friends or family members could also be considered affiliations. When you first log in to your editor dash, please visit http://affiliations.dmoz.org/ and input your affiliations.
Finally, you will find the forums to be invaluable places to ask questions and learn what your fellow editors are doing. In addition to the New Editors forum, I suggest you visit the Regional forums http://forums.dmoz.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 , where you will find a discussion among other editors volunteering in your area.
Again, welcome to the team!
I’ll be in charge of editing and streamlining this Regional Category for Education in Davao City.
I am inviting various schools that fall within this category to submit your sites mentioned above and be part and Help build the most comprehensive human-reviewed directory of the web.
On submitting your site kindly read this help information for better understanding. My dmoz profile can be found here.
