Tournament Format
Before we move into the features of BLAST Paris Major 2023, it is vital to iron out the format. The tournament is divided into three main stages, with the breakdown as follows below:
- The Challengers Stage: May 8-11
- The Legends Stage: May 13-16
- The Champions Stage: May 18-21
Along with that, qualifications for the Major’s RMR events in Paris will be held in February and March 2023. BLAST Paris Major RMR tournaments themselves are scheduled for April 3-9, 2023.
After the RMRs, a total of 16 teams qualified for the Challengers Stage will participate in the Swiss System format meaning that there is an equal opportunity for all the participants to break out of the stage and proceed to the next. The top eight teams move straight to the Legends Stage, with the eight bottom-placed teams being eliminated.
The Swiss System is also used for the Legends Stage, with the eight top teams moving on to the exciting Champions stage. The latter applies a traditional single-elimination bracket, with all the matches played in Best of 3.
The Main Reasons to Watch BLAST Paris Major
BLAST is known as the most prestigious CS:GO organizer on the competitive circuit. That’s part of why many fans asked for a Major to be delivered from the company. And this long-awaited moment has finally become a reality. Below are three great reasons to watch the tournament.
First BLAST Major in the Company’s History
Firstly, BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 will be the first international event taking place in France since the game’s release. Robbie Douek, CEO of BLAST, has promised in the official statement to organize “the greatest Major in history” in addition to meeting the expectations of fans. Not only it will be BLAST’s debut, but it will also be hosted from the French capital for the first time, making the event impossible to go unnoticed by the CS:GO community.
Increase in the Prize Pool Amount
The second major’s innovation and another reason to watch BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 is that Valve changed the prize pool but at the expense of the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) events.
At the moment, BLAST has revealed that the Paris Major will have $1,250,000 in prize money. That is a $250,000 increase compared to all other Valve Majors starting with MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016. The only exception was PGL Major Stockholm 2021, which had $2,000,000 on offer. The reason for that was the pandemic: the previous Major of the season was postponed and the prize fund doubled as an exception.
However, as we have said earlier, the increase comes from the fund previously allocated for the RMR tournaments. This time, there will be no prize money at the major regional tournaments in Paris. Therefore, Valve simply added this money to the fund for the first major of 2023.
Great National Representative
The French country has great historical players and teams, so the culture of the shooter is more than evident. However, Team Vitality, with ZywOo in the lead, will be the great national representative in the Major international eSports tournament in 2023. By the time of writing this article, the French organization secured its first trophy since going international at the start of 2022. The bees have been proclaimed champions of the ESL Pro League Season 16 event after beating the top 10 CS:GO teams in the world.
Where to Watch the Tournament
Finally, French President Emmanuel Macron has also confirmed that BLAST Paris Major 2023 will take place in Bercy, Accor Arena, a Parisian venue with a 20,000-seat capacity. The stadium has been host to the League of Legends Worlds in 2019 and the Paris Master ATP Tour Tennis event, among other important concerts and performances. Therefore, the venue will be the perfect grounds for the prestigious tournament on the CS:GO calendar in 2023.
