D-Link’s New Wi-Fi Smart Plug Integrates Home Automation with mydlink

D-Link-New-Wi-Fi Smart-Plug
D-Link, one of the world’s biggest producers of home networking solutions launches the new D-Link DSP-W215 mydlink™ Wi-Fi Smart Plug. The first ever gadget in D-Link’s new ‘Connected Home’ product family, the Smart Plug brings Home Automation to consumers via the mydlink Cloud platform, a smart ecosystem for home connectivity. The smart device allows homeowners to switch on and off electronic devices on a schedule, reduce overheating risks, and monitor electricity usage and billing. Being linked to the mydlink Cloud ecosystem also ensures that consumers can control their devices remotely using a connected mobile device, and stay attentive with notification alerts anytime, anywhere.

*The plug type is country dependent.

“The new D-Link Smart Plug is a multi-purpose, compact and easy-to-use device that allows users to monitor and control one’s home’s electronic devices from anywhere at any time,” said Mr Jonathan Quek, Marketing Director for D-Link International. “Measuring at only 117 x 66 x 39.3mm, the gadget is 20% smaller than traditional plug-in timers and more versatile with mydlink™ support that allows it to be used with the handy mydlink™ Home app that is available for free for Android and iOS devices and can control more than 10 Smart Plugs under the same app. The app allows one to easily check usage, set up alerts, or switch devices on and off with a simple tap, and also safeguards against damage via appliance overheating, for peace of mind.”

Easy Setup & Control with mydlink™ Home App
Smart Plug supports Wireless 802.11n 150 up to 150Mbps, which makes it interoperable with any existing home Wi-Fi gateway. Simply plug it into a power socket and set it up via the mydlink™ Home app or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button to establish a secure wireless connection. Smart Plug will be automatically added to the list of devices on the mydlink™ app, allowing users to get started on usage and configuration right away.

Using the app, the device allows users to schedule or instantly switch on and off any appliances from anywhere via one’s smartphone or tablet. Scheduling ensures that the lamp is not on when one is asleep, or that the television is not left on when away on a holiday. With one tap on the mydlinkTM Home app, appliances can be turned on or off in an instant, and change your power schedules on-the-go, ensuring no worries about leaving something on while one is away.

On top of that, the app also keeps users informed with its alert system. It sends notifications through the app, when an appliance surpasses a pre-set power consumption limit or if it has been automatically deactivated due to plug overheating. Users are also able to customize settings for alert actions for additional notifications.

Smart Energy Management
By plugging in an appliance through Smart Plug, one can monitor and manage the appliance’s power usage. The mydlink™ Home app has a statistics tab which provides information on how much power the device plugged in to Smart Plug is using, allowing homeowners to make informed decisions about how best to schedule each device for power and money saving.

Thermal Protection to Prevent Appliance Overheating
Equipped with a built-in thermal sensor, the Smart Plug helps to prevent damage to devices or homes due to abnormal usage of appliances. Its internal temperature monitoring system detects and automatically switches off appliances in scenarios of overheating.

Availability
The D-Link DSP-W215 mydlinkTM Wi-Fi Smart Plug will be available from February 2015 at authorized retailers, resellers and distribution partners.
