NewspaperDirect (ND) announced that the company’s PressReader digital newspaper and magazine app is planned for release on the forthcoming BlackBerry® 10 platform, ensuring that news fans and publishers worldwide are assured of optimum performance and an exceptional reading experience on the new-generation mobile platform from Research In Motion (RIM). ND’s development team is optimizing PressReader for the new platform using the BlackBerry® 10 Native Software Development Kit (SDK).

ND has been giving BlackBerry customers unrivalled access to the best of the world’s press since 2007. Today PressReader offers BlackBerry® PlayBook™ customers online or offline access to more than more than 2,300 full-content digital newspapers and magazines from 100 countries and in 56 languages.

“We are committed to giving our subscribers and those of our SmartEdition publishing partners the optimum reading experience on the latest mobile devices,” said Alex Kroogman, CEO of NewspaperDirect. “Our development team is making excellent progress on the new BlackBerry 10 platform, and there’s no question that when PressReader debuts for BlackBerry 10 it will set new standards for delivering the world’s media on mobile handsets.”

“The BlackBerry 10 platform has been built with a focus on making the creation of content and its delivery very easy, while maintaining the BlackBerry strengths in communications, integration and reliability. The BlackBerry 10 platform gives NewspaperDirect the ability to easily create stunning user interfaces to showcase their publishing partners’ content,” said Martyn Mallick, VP of Global Alliances and Business Development at Research in Motion.
