Dedicated hosting vs Cloud hosting for Business

By Faust Principe March 10, 2018

Dedicated Hosting and Business Hosting

Compared to dedicated hosting, it can be less expensive. As it’s billed on a per usage basis, you are designated a certain amount of resources such as bandwidth,  storage etc., for anything beyond that you will be charged depending on how much was used.  This means that you only ever pay for what you use.

Being a devoted business owner you must know that growth is key to success in any field.
When your business processes halt and experience inertia that is when  you start losing revenue. The growth and development of an online venture directly correlates
to the size and capabilities of its hosting plan. That’s precisely why  you ought to seriously weigh in all your options to come to an optimal solution for your business.

DEDICATED HOSTING
Dedicated hosting is the go to option for most businesses. As its name might suggest, with this type
of hosting you have the entire server dedicated just to you.  The server is only used by your company, you hold full control over the hosting environment,
the choice of software and operating system. Dedicated hosting is  probably the most expensive solution out of all the hosting packages. A monthly bill will depend on
what kind of a package you will choose, but it can range  from 100$ to 500$. You will obviously also need a person or a team of technical experts to run
and maintain the server, combine that with the monthly hosting  bill and it may end up being a hefty sum some small businesses just can’t afford. For this reason,
dedicated hosting is usually recommended for bigger companies.

While dedicated hosting guarantees reliability and security, it also has some drawbacks.
As powerful as this type of hosting may be, there are still some  limitations when it comes to the hardware side of things. With the growth of your venture
and an increase in traffic to your website the server might get.  In that case you will be in for an upgrade, either to a more powerful server or a network of servers.

CLOUD HOSTING
Cloud hosting is a relatively new type of hosting and functions on a completely different scale than
dedicated hosting.  A cloud is a network of servers  interconnected with each other which allows for a data transfer without any considerable limitations.
In other words, rather than your data being stored in one place (server), its spread out across multiple locations. This way cloud hosting providers avert a
number of complications that may arise from hosting information in one machine.

You don’t have to worry about limitations of one single server, bandwidth restrictions and scalability
aren’t an issue in cloud hosting. If your website suddenly  experiences a traffic spike, a cloud host will just increase the number of locations your website’s
data is available from. Same goes for disk space, should you require  more storage with just a few clicks you can add more disk space without any hassle. This ensures
that no matter how high your website’s resource demand increases,  you will never run out of space or bandwidth.

When cloud hosting providers promise you an almost 100% uptime, they mean it. Since your
website is available from more than one location, should an unforeseen  event happen such as an unexpected power failure, you won’t lose any of your data. If one server
goes down, another one will take its place as a back-up  delivering your content to the users as if nothing had happened.

Compared to dedicated hosting, it can be less expensive. As it’s billed on a per-usage basis, you are designated a certain amount of resources such as bandwidth,  storage etc., for anything beyond that you will be charged depending on how much was used.
This means that you only ever pay for what you use.

All of this sounds really good, but cloud hosting does have one drawback and that is security.
As explained, multiple websites are stored in the same cloud,  there is a potential risk for an attacker to gain access to the entire network by hacking just
one server. Being aware of this flaw, cloud hosts usually take their  security very seriously and make sure it never comes to that. Ultimately,
the pros of cloud hosting do outweigh the cons.
