Asus known for their decade long robust, stable, motherboard and components manufacturer has finally unveiled their latest laptop innovation:
This is my fourth gadget purchase.
It’s also a long follow-up of:
My first laptop, Compaq Presario.
Second a NEO Basic B3357 netbook bundled with Globe Tattoo postpaid plan.
Camera gear the Nikon D3100 DSLR Camera.
The ASUS K55VD-SX035 comes with a full featured chick-let keyboard complete with numerical keys, a multi-touch trackpad – enables you to zoom, scroll and rotate, a spacious brushed aluminum palm rest that Asus is calling it the IceCool feature – a technology of keeping heat of components away from the palm rest after prolonged use.The spacious touch-pad somehow behaves erratically as I struggle myself with the tap and zoom features.
Take note: my fingers are in a relaxed state (I’m trying to avoid the repetitive finger/ing syndrome)
This minor hiccup comes in when I use the Chrome browser for surfing sites, as well as viewing photos with Microsoft’s own photo viewer.
The two finger scrolling horizontal method doesn’t seem to work unless I configure ELAN Smart-Pad Pointing Device software.
As if it’s part my maintenance routine it becomes too cumbersome, setting it up in several occasions as my lappy performs system updates including reboots.
Surrounding the touch-pad is a clean and stainless looking brushed aluminum, this is where both of my palm rests while my fingers are doing its dirty work.
It gets warmer after I leave the AC adapter plugged for a few hours and warm when on full charge battery.
But in this case I don’t worry much, the surface is not hot enough to cook your favorite sunny side up egg for breakfast. 😉
The ASUS K55VD-SX035 laptop is powered with the latest Third Generation of Intel Core i7 Processor speaking and hailing itself the Ivy Bridge 3610QM at 2.3 Ghz.
Capable of turbo-boosting up to 3.0+ Ghz – it sounds like a safer way to overclock the processor, add-on speed thrill great for processor intensive applications.
A mobile nVidia GeForce 610M, 2 Gb graphics card enables you play Role Playing Games (RPG) and famous out of the box first person shooter games like “Call of Duty”.
A wide 15.6″ LED screen for better multimedia, high definition movie viewing experience paired with Logitech Z623
According to one of Blinque technical staff, he performed a hands-on demo on the ASUS K55VD-SX035 laptop, stating the decent gaming performance in front playing Diablo 3.
Honestly, I’m no hard-core gamer with what’s in and latest today, I don’t intend to install any hard drive space grabbing games yet.
Except for AngryBirds space that I play once in a while, as I don’t want to bloat and slow down and degrade my laptop’s performance with unnecessary programs.
I do have productivity suites like Office 2010, essential programs, ie; VLC media player, IrfanView, avast Internet Security, Alcatel One Touch Upgrade for Alcatel OneTouch 918N Glory X, Acronis True Image Home 2010, USB Disk Security and Asus Device Drivers and Software.
Check out and review the specs right after a break.

Battery life is always an issue with most laptops.
The Asus K55VD-SX035 can squeezed around 4-5 hours of battery usage (depending on your hunger for power usage, ie; gaming, movie viewing tends to drain battery life that easy).
Asus is using its proprietary power saving software Power4Gear Battery Saving: The following offers: High Performance, Entertainment, Quiet Office and Battery Saving maximizing the battery’s performance.
Some cool features worth a try, Smart Logon or FaceLogon, is a facial recognition software allows you to logon your laptop using your face in front of the computer without keying in your password a big plus but it won’t log you in when there’s somebody else in background.
Check out the Windows Experience Index of 5.
It comes with a hefty price tag lower compared to any laptops available in the market as of today. I wish there was a ultrabook with the same specs and price range 🙂
Pros: latest processor Core i7 Ivy Bridge, dual graphics, large led screen
Cons: low resolution webcam, heavy to carry around, no oem operating system installed.
Price: P 37,995.00 4 Gb model, P 39,995.00 8 Gb model

GeekyFaust says

Hi GeekyFaust! How’s your laptop doing? I bought this exact model about 2 months ago in Villman megamall. I was the one who installed win7. I was very excited about the notebook since it has really good specs at a very low price. However, I’ve noticed that it’s running slow for it’s specs. I’ve compared it with my other i3 notebook and it’s slower even if I have just installed my win7 in it. No malwares or bloatwares but it’s slow 🙁
GeekyFaust says
mine is doing great! make sure you’re using the windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version, install and use the optical drivers that came with it, my optical drivers are all 64 bit, but if price is not an issue purchase a licensed copy of windows 7 64 bit, make sure all your programs are 64 bit capable too.
in my spare time I can help you check out the unit, that of course if you’re residing somewhere in Davao City ^_^
Gail says
Done all of that GeekyFaust.. Well, it’s not really slow. However I believe it’s slower for its specs 🙁 Thanks!
GeekyFaust says
how about trying windows 8?
Diane says
Hi Gail! I just purchased this laptop. I’ve noticed mine’s slow for its specs too. I’m using a licensed win 7, but still it hasn’t performed up to its specs. 🙁 It took about 20-25 sec to start up. Have you figured out anything wrong? Thanks.
GeekyFaust says
use the optical drivers that came with your purchase ^_^
GhostCall says
hi geekyfaust,
would like to ask how do you setup ur k55vd? i mean, the videocard.. mine is using internally (shown at dxdiag).
how would i set it up to nvidia graphics card?
moreover, im not that happy using diablo3 cause i want it on high res, but cant do.. 🙁
any suggestions? thanks..
GeekyFaust says
use the autoinstall feature of the optical disk that came with it. the laptop has switchable graphics you can either use intel hd or nvidia.
mark jeo says
tanong ko lang po kung mag lalaro ng diablo 3 or dota 2 sa asus k55vd -SX035 kaya po ba na ifull/high res. yun ?
thanks ^^
GeekyFaust says
The Windows 7 Home Premium OS you are about to purchase is it 64bit or 32bit? if it’s 32 bit your laptop will work, but with a memory restrictions is up to 4gb and if you go with the 64bit version the memory the os can support will go from 4-8 gb and above, so the memory installed is maximized.
You can upgrade later to Windows 7 Ultimate, provided you make a backup of all your files and settings. How about getting a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit? the said os is geared towards for power users. but when you’re using the machine for light work go for the 32bit version.
GeekyFaust says
The 64bit will still work on 4gb. The 64bit is only needed for memory, graphics, processor intensive applications.
GeekyFaust says
Why not buy a 4 or 8 port network switch? or how about a 4-port router? it’s affordable no need of splitting it.

Hi GeekyFaust!
Thanks,
Carlo
Carlo says
1tb HDD pala. Sorry.:)
GeekyFaust says
go for it..
Carlo says
Thanks po for the reply po.:)
Carlo says
Last Question. Hindi po ba ito “Fake”? Kase for that price, parang mura? Or Smuggled lang siya? Thanks.
GeekyFaust says
no it’s not fake and smuggled but rather a promo price.
GeekyFaust says
hello apologies.
i bought the unit because i was after the processor speed, here’s a good review too for you to read:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/laptop/3373744/asus-k55vd-review/
you can also check specs too:
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Versatile_Performance/K55VD/#specifications
but the weight of the laptop would be a problem, it’s quite heavy for me to carry around.
have a nice day..
GeekyFaust says
@Nusquam
imho it’s clear and crisp when watching hd movies i haven’t tested the graphics performance for games nor ran benchmark tools.
Gail says
the resolution quality is indeed poor. the audio is very poor as well. the worst part is that, there are cases where the built in video card is better than the dedicated video card. this is the first laptop where I’ve seen this issue. but well, you get what you pay for.
Gail says
Poor in general. To be honest, I’m really not happy with the purchase 🙁
GeekyFaust says
I’m sorry about your predicament, you can sell it to someone else and buy a new laptop or ultrabook that fit your needs. but right now I’m still enjoying the unit I bought myself. on the other hand what I don’t like about this unit is it’s quite heavy and the trackpad has some kind of erratic behavior and bulky to carry around. Cheers and have a nice day 🙂
