Davao City – August 10, 2010 – Sony Ericsson has launched the latest handsets in its growing Xperia portfolio here. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro, described as the world’s smallest Android smartphones, have been unveiled in the Sony Ericsson Expo 2010 Davao

The Sony Ericsson Expo 2010 Davao is a showcase of the Xperia, Walkman and GreenHeart range of handsets, as well as its other handset models. The Xperia line of handsets brings consumers the best communications and entertainment experiences, delivered in a collection of smartphones to give consumers choice in size and style. With some 140 million Walkman phones sold, Sony Ericsson has brought the mobile phone music experience to new heights through the Walkman brand. The successful GreenHeart line, meantime, brings green innovations to the mobile lifestyle without compromise on the phone’s design or functions.

The latest Xperia range is the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro. The X10 mini has dimensions of 3.2 by 1.9 by .63 inches, while the x10 mini pro with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard is 3.5 by 2.05 by .67 inches. Both are approximately the size of a credit card, but are bursting with numerous features. As Google Android smartphones, the duo can be customized with direct downloadable applications from Android Market.

Both phones have a 2.55-inch scratch resistant TFT touchscreen supporting over 16 million colors. Their 5-megapixel camera for stills and video comes with auto focus, geo tagging, photo and video light and the Sony Ericsson album application, a feature that organizes image files. Their user experience platform was specifically designed for a smaller form factor with a one-hand touch experience. Users can quickly access their most used and favourite applications through a unique and customizable four-corner user interface.

Sony Ericsson says the phones are true compact versions of the highly popular Xperia X10. The Xperia X10, which is made of solid global debut earlier this year, was Sony Ericsson’s first smartphone in the Android platform. It has since become one of the company’s best sellers, and has been recorded as Japan’s top selling smartphone. The X10 mini is available in black, pearl white, lime and silver while the X10 mini pro is in black and red.

Sony Ericsson has also announced a new Xperia mobile phone that will be arriving by Q3 2010, the X8. The X8 will build on the success of the X10 and the mini products and extend the most entertaining smartphones collection to an even broader audience.

Visitors to the Sony Ericsson Expo Davao can also check out the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Vivaz pro. Like the Vivaz, the new Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro allows consumers to capture, view and share their best experiences in HD video. The Vivaz pro has QWERTY keyboard that allows consumers to communicate quickly and efficiently via email, SMS or social networking updates.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz has an 8.1 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, continuous auto focus for video, image stabilizer, 3D games, Facebook and Twitter applications. One can review the HD video content in the standby panel or online via Wi-Fi on the 3.2 inc widescreen.

Meantime, the Vivaz pro lets users stay in touch through email, Twitter, Facebook, blogging and chat with easy typing through its QWERTY keyboard. View everything on the 3.2″ 16:9 wide touchscreen which gives HD resolution videos for upload to YouTube via Wi-Fi. The phone has a 5.1 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, auto focus and face detection.

Both Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Vivaz pro feature the new design philosophy ‘human curvature’, which will become a consistent feature of the Sony Ericsson portfolio. The design mirrors the shape of the human body, and at the same time delivers a precise and compelling way of interacting with the phones.

Sony Ericsson also unveils the new Spiro and Zylo Walkman phones at the expo. Both phones provide consumers with the best music experience they have come to expect from the Walkman line aside from social networking connections. Spiro bears the iconic Sony Ericsson Walkman music player, Bluetooth stereo, FM radio and 3.5 mm jack. Zylo gives a superb sound with clear audio experience and plays in high definition FLAC format, the best sound quality ever on a mobile phone. Both phones also have TrackID, which can identify music track’s artist, song title and album title by accessing an online music database.

The new handsets are now available in Sony Ericsson Experience Shops and authorized dealers nationwide.

I’ve preferred SE phones over Nokia but I’m always befuddled that they leave out features that have become standard in some Nokia phones like GPS. SE phones do sometimes offer better resolution cameras than Nokia.
