While Windows XP is coming out of age and it’s about to get a decade old soon, mainstream support for Windows XP (Service Pack 2) SP2 will be ending on July 13, 2o1o, Windows XP (Service Pack 3) SP3 on April 8, 2014 according to Wikipedia and Microsoft Support Lifecycle.
I’ve been using Windows XP SP2 for more than 6 years and most of the software apps I used works fine both on desktop and laptop computers, but they are instances it unexpectedly crashes on my laptop for no reasons at all, I tried and upgraded it to SP3 only to find out some minor nuances – it modifies tcpip settings in the registry (try downloading any media files or programs using p2p peer-to-peer software it becomes sluggish or no downloads at all.) I think it’s a security measure implemented to prevent network buffer overflows, and other compatibility issues.
Proceed with backup all the files and proceed with a clean install of Windows 7.
I must say – My HP Compaq Presario C767Tu passed the Windows Experience Index – not bad at all. I love the new features it has – like the Snipping Tool for cropping and highlighting images, Windows Aero, Pinned Applications, Thumbnail Previews, and many more.
