5 Hosting Types Explained

By Faust Principe July 13, 2017

5 hosting types
There are a number of different types of hosting that you will have to choose from, and it’s important that you take the time to select the right option to match your specific needs. The type of hosting that you choose can have a tremendous effect on everything from the speed of your website to how often it is down/up. You will definitely want to take the time to learn about these hosting options before making a final decision.

  1. Shared Hosting

You will find that shared hosting is by far the most common option, simply because it is the cheapest and can offer a wide range of features that businesses need. With this type of hosting, lots of different customers’ websites are hosted on the same server. There are a multitude of shared hosting plans available with domain names, marketing tools, business-class email and a lot more.

If you are trying to save as much money on hosting services while still getting the features you need, this is certainly an option worth looking into. The major drawback of shared hosting, however, is that your website could run slowly because of the fact that so many different people’s websites are run on the same server.

  1. Dedicated Hosting

Dedicated hosting is when each customer’s website is hosted on a different individual server. While it’s true that this type of hosting is conducive to higher loading times and overall site speed, it’s also significantly more expensive than shared hosting. If you are willing and able to spend the extra money, dedicated hosting is definitely a great option that you should carefully consider. Dedicated servers are extremely important for websites that receive a lot of traffic on a regular basis. If your site receives an incredibly high amount of traffic each day, you will most likely want to go with a dedicated hosting plan. It’s important to keep in mind that dedicated hosting also offers some of the best security, so you can trust that your website will be protected.

  1. Cloud Hosting

Cloud hosting uses remote virtual servers, so it’s a little bit different than the first two types of hosting listed in this article. Those who pay for cloud hosting share a physical server that is located at the company’s headquarters, but it is spread out into numerous virtual servers that are unique to each customer. Each cloud customer is assigned a unique IP address, which is completely different from shared hosting.

One of the best things about cloud hosting is the fact that its performance is incredible, so you can therefore expect great things. It is also an extremely reliable type of hosting. If the server that your website is hosted on fails for any reason, it can be restarted on another server. If you want to keep your website’s downtime to a minimum, you will certainly want to consider this hosting option carefully.

  1. Free Hosting

There are a number of different web hosts that offer free web hosting, though most of the time it’s not actually free in a true sense. We highly recommend that you do not go in for free hosting, simply because it isn’t of much use to most people. You definitely don’t want to choose a free hosting plan if you run a business website of any kind. These “free” hosting plans usually give you about 10MB of space, which is not much at all. If you are planning on running a small personal website, this could be a decent option to consider.

  1. Ecommerce Hosting

Ecommerce web hosting is any type of hosting that allows the website to offer secure online purchasing with SSL encryption. If you are planning on running an online store, you will need to select this option. There are a number of different companies that offer this option, and there are quite a few plans that you should look through. If you are going to be selling products of any kind online, you will need to take the time to find the best ecommerce plan to match your specific needs. You will definitely be glad you took the time to do this research because of how much it will end up helping you and your business.
